Hello Pilgrims!
I have once again found myself saying how excited I am for this week’s lectionary text, a passage from the book of Jonah, and have been thinking about how consistently excited I get by getting to talk about and wrestle with Scripture.
As progressive Christians, we often aren’t sure what to do about the Bible. Many of us come from religious backgrounds where the Bible was used as a weapon against us or against people we love or against Creation. There is certainly plenty in the Bible that is difficult to read, to say the least, and it can leave us feeling confused, frustrated, disappointed, angry, uncomfortable - a litany of emotions that are hard to sift through.
And still, the Bible remains deeply moving. As much as it holds the horrors of humanity, it also holds vibrant beauty that speaks into our lives today. It can still ground us, motivate us, cause us to see something in a new way.
What is your comfort level with Scripture? What are your questions and areas of interest? Where has it made you uncomfortable? Where has it moved you?
