A Letter from Lindy Oct 12
Hi Pilgrims,
Grateful to be back after a week in Orlando, celebrating a certain 4 year-old’s festivities. Grateful for the many Pilgrims who stepped in to make a pastor’s absence seamless so things flowed as they should. Grateful for Carol Rawls who offered you a hopeful word this past Sunday. Grateful to my family who made room for my presence amidst their busiest and most stressful quarter of the year. Grateful for my sister who, once again, flew from Maui to be present with my mom while I traveled.
Continuing the theme of gratitude, I look forward to this Sunday where we affirm, install, and surround with prayer the fiduciary officers of Pilgrim for the coming year. Grateful for the yes of these leaders to navigate and guide us through the tumultuous currents of our country and world’s waters, helping us find both grounding and hope amidst. Prayerful am I that when they turn to you to seek your support, assistance, involvement, you will say yes– as the work of the church requires us all. As I prepared this service, I discovered, for reasons that are understandable but not ok, that we have not held an installation service since 2022. For that lapse, I offer my profuse apology. Please join me in correcting this unintended oversight.
Anticipatory gratitude stirs in my heart for the covenant-in-the-making of our wonderful accompanist, Kyle Ballentine, and his soon-to-be betrothed, John Pollack. Grateful for their trust in this community to hold them with love as they make promises to each other that deepen their lives together. Anticipatory, as the festive occasion is on Saturday, October 18 at 3:30pm at Pilgrim– all Pilgrims are invited (and encouraged) to attend the ceremony.
Let me offer a road map for the ceremony, if you are planning on attending. Please set your watches to arrive before 3pm, as these two lovely musicians have prepared a 30 minute string prelude for the gathered’s listening pleasure. As much as Pilgrim’s laid-back nature for the start of Sunday worship makes me smile, I ask that we honor Kyle and John’s gift by arriving in a timely manner. Not only to properly receive their gift, but so that when the grooms and families make their entrance, they do not unexpectedly meet you in the narthex. At the close of the nuptials, after the grooms recess, they will greet the gathered on the brick patio to thank each of you for sharing in this special day. Let us join them with joy.
See you Sunday.
grace and peace,
Pastor Lindy
