A Letter from Lindy June 14

Rev. Megan Pardue

Hello Pilgrims,

Pilgrims, please join me in welcoming Refuge Home Church to worship on Sunday. Grateful am I for their willingness to adapt their worship so that their pastor, Megan Pardue, can explore God’s word with us for this Sunday. As we grow in relationship with our sister UCC congregation, Megan graciously offered to step in if there was ever a Sunday that I needed to step away. As I honor a soft date for my heart this weekend, I am deeply indebted for her gift. Please surround her with your love as she opens our minds to the scriptures.

A little bit about Refuge Church. It began in Durham in 2007, exploring questions related to worship space, resources, healing, and community. Refuge has been meeting in homes or public parks every Sunday for almost 18 years, moving from one house to another every single week. On the second Sunday of the month, they meet all together in one service, and this past fall and winter, they worshipped in our fellowship hall here at Pilgrim on the second Sunday of the month. If you'd like to learn more about how it works, please ask someone in the fellowship hall after worship. Following a season of discernment and a desire to connect in covenant, Refuge joined the United Church of Christ in 2024 and feels grateful to be a part of this church family.

A little bit about Megan. We are glad to have Rev. Megan M. Pardue (she/her) engage us in holy conversation this Sunday. Megan is the lead pastor at Refuge Home Church UCC since 2013. A native of Portland, Oregon, she’s called Durham home since 2009. She’s a graduate of Southern Nazarene University and Duke Divinity School. In addition to pastoring, she teaches preaching at Duke Divinity School and previously co-hosted the weekly lectionary podcast That'll Preach. She enjoys growing a large vegetable and flower garden in the city, thrifting, and spending time on the American Tobacco Trail or at the Eno River with her husband Keith, and children, Iris and Jasper.

I will miss you all, but grateful for the opportunity to lean into family.

grace and peace,

Pastor Lindy
