Greetings from Greyson June 7

Hello Pilgrims,

For many around the world, June is Pride Month, but of course, here in Durham, we don’t celebrate until September. As we look ahead, we are beginning to discern how we want to show up as a church for our LGBTQ siblings during Pride and beyond, a life-giving task that often involves a level of outreach. We now take on this task, understanding ourselves to be responding within a particular moment in our nation, where the most vulnerable are threatened daily.

One way we can think about outreach is to continue to build support and authentic relationships with the nonprofits in our area that are already doing fantastic work to meet basic needs in our communities. The LGBTQ Center of Durham is hosting Pride events in June and September this year.

On June 13th, from 10 am - 3 pm, they are hosting a block party to support LGBTQ children and youth and are looking for volunteers to help run the event. They request that volunteers receive a background check to abide by safety policies, since it is an event for children and youth. Please speak to Beth Branciforte or me if you are interested.

Having a presence at events hosted by our community’s organizations is just one way we can show up for each other and live out our values throughout the year.

There will be many ways we can respond to the needs of this time, and I look forward to finding those opportunities together.
