A Letter from Lindy March 29

Hello Pilgrims,

We are in the home stretch to Holy Week, which means the finish line for a number of Pilgrim efforts. We have worked hard throughout this Lenten season, digging deep into our exploration about what it means to follow Jesus. To answer that very personal question, we needed to define who Jesus was/is for those of us who call ourselves disciples. Our small groups conclude this week and I guess, if I had been on the ball, I would have created an exit interview to learn what answers people came up with. My hunch is that the predominant response would be that “we are a work in progress.”

Another finish line in sight is Crop Walk this Palm Sunday, March 29. Starting place, Duke Chapel. We had two goals: 52 walkers, $26,000. To date we have 33 walkers signed up and have raised $14,578. Knowing Pilgrim’s rhythm, these numbers will climb, but I put these benchmarks out there to give us a little push. Let’s go Pilgrim!

Our ultimate finish line, which theologically is also our starting place–Easter. A beautiful day in store for any and all who gather. Sunrise service in the Columbarium at the rising of Pilgrim’s sun, 8am. Continental Breakfast at 9am, followed by our Easter Cantata with Holy Communion at 10:30am. Easter Egg Hunt to wrap up our morning after worship. Come one come all!

In between these two Sundays will be our Maundy Thursday service on April 2 at 5:30pm. Our worship will be outdoors on the brick patio, weather permitting, around a fire. If you can, bring an outdoor chair.

Our worshipful hope is two-fold. To reimagine how the Last Supper would feel following the story arc of John’s gospel when the risen Jesus beckons the disciples from the sea of Tiberias to the shore so they might break bread together. (Yes, I am messing with timelines) Here, Jesus asks his disciples, not only if they love him, but how they will show their love. Those are the questions we too will hold, closing the arc of our Lenten journey. I guess I didn’t need to worry. Jesus provided our exit interview for me.

Maundy Thursday worship is both experiential and accessible to all. I hope you join us.

grace and peace,

Pastor Lindy
