A Letter from Lindy June 29
Hi Pilgrims,
Imagine my surprise when Hannah walked into my office earlier with a quizzical look on her face. “We have no announcements for Sunday?!” she said with concern. “Isn’t that maybe a good thing?” I quipped, “as we have inundated the congregation with so many for the bulk of this month.”
It does feel overwhelming at times to listen to the litany of happenings each Sunday and wonder from where we draw our energy. I remarked in one of our interviews last week to a potential candidate that Pilgrims are so involved in so many things, it’s exhausting at times.” As much as we all laughed with pride, I did wonder when we replenish. And with that thought, Hannah and I cooked up a plan for July. Well, actually with the heat, we didn’t want to turn on the stove, so receive this as a no-cook offering.
For the month of July, we are going to down-gear the communication we send out on a weekly basis from the office. Typically we send out two newsletters. One chock full of information, events, resources, calendar, along with letters from Felix and me. The other, in the wee hours of Sunday morning, the links to join worship online. For the month of July, we will condense these missives to one a week on Sunday morning. It will be streamlined to include the calendar for the week, the links, and any pressing announcements that require your attention. Think of it as a month’s deep breath that creates space for rest and replenishment. With Pilgrim’s boards and council taking a July break, along with the choir and Sunday School recess, we thought we would add to July’s expanse. I think it was last summer when the phrase “soft girl summer” was coined which we will adapt to “soft Pilgrim July.”
Now hear me, I believe deeply that worship is an integral part of our rest, so I’m not recommending (and definitely not encouraging) you to stay away Sunday mornings. Rather join us at 10:30 with open hearts and minds to feel God’s breath wrapping around you like an unexpected cool summer breeze.
We will ensure that you miss no news from Pilgrim, but enjoy the lull of information inundation.
grace and peace,
Pastor Lindy
