A Letter from Lindy August 31
Hi Pilgrims,
I pen this note in the wee hours of Thursday morning, hoping to check one more important item off my “to do” list before family arrives in Durham in a few short hours for a belated birthday celebration. I am grateful this last gasp of summer will be infused with 3 yr old exuberance.
What I’m finding is that it is much easier to organize for a brief PTO when I’m the one getting on the plane, rather than waiting expectantly at arrivals. Once those tarmac doors shut, there’s really nothing you can do about what’s been left behind. You trust and pray that the team that surrounds you can adjust as needed. And along these past many years, Pilgrim, you have proven yourselves to be masters of the pivot, and I am grateful.
When I’m on the receiving end of a visit though, not only is there the stress of hosting, wanting everything to flow just so, but then also the juggling of the rhythms of your everyday life amidst–including this newsletter, the liturgy, a sermon. Here’s hoping everything syncs for Sunday worship. That it feels as seamless as every other Sunday. If not, I seek your grace in advance for not having it all together.
I pray that when we gather together, we touch that replenishing the living waters in the well of beloved community, so that it nourishes and restores for the months ahead. As my clergy colleagues remarked earlier this week, after Labor Day, its full steam ahead, as the calendar flies by until the first of the year. Looking at our plans for the balance of the year, I know that to be true. See you Sunday.
grace and peace,
Pastor Lindy
