A Letter from Lindy Apr 21

Pilgrims,

Sunday we will welcome some new and some returning folks to Pilgrim with our new member celebration. Rosalie Edmonds, Kris Fajhe, and Kim Theobald have discerned that Pilgrim feels right to be their church home. Denise Thomas, a Pilgrim for years, felt called to another community many years back, but then felt that tug to return and has been an active presence for some time. She now feels called to officially transfer her membership back to Pilgrim. I am joy-filled that all four of these beautiful people have discovered what I know about this beloved community. Won’t you help me welcome them into Pilgrim’s embrace.

Additionally, you’ve got an inkling (hopefully) that I am encouraging broad community turn out for ourWorshipful Work Sunday. The link to sign up ishere. We invite/encourage you to sign up so that we can get an accurate count for lunch.

A few of you have stopped me and said you didn’t think you would come because there would be nothing for you to do if you couldn’t work. Not true! Pilgrim’s team of intrepid organizers are developing a wide variety of tasks both within and outside our campus walls that require a little to a lot of effort. You choose what works for you. None are exceedingly strenuous, but all will help us be good stewards of this beautiful plot of land entrusted to our care for generations to come. Thank you Tom Heath who sent out the link for our “to-do” list church wide to help you get a sense of the morning and how you might plug in.

What I want to draw your attention to this week (hence the multi-colored font) is that we are going to start the day earlier than our traditional 10:30am. We will begin worship at9:30amso as to take advantage of cooler morning weather for those folks who will be working outside. We will work until the11:30bell ringing when we will gather to share in Holy Communion and close our Worshipful Work with a community luncheon.

  • Does 9:30 feel too early? Please do not let arriving a little later stop you from participating. There will be plenty of ways to plug in.

  • Don’t feel you can tackle a work-day handy-person project? We need folks who can greet visitors and Pilgrims who arrive later to help them get plugged in. We also need folks who will tend to our hydration station and organize and serve our luncheon. And having cheerleaders who walk around to chit chat with the worker bees is always welcome.

  • Not going to be here on 4/28, but want to help? Reach out to the Trustees to see if there are tasks you can take on before and/or after that will contribute to our effort.

  • Forgot to sign up? No problem, show up anyways! All are welcome.

The other invitation I want to draw your attention to is for you to dress to work andbring a reusable water bottleto stay hydrated. As our Worshipful Work was borne out of Pilgrim’s Creation Care team’s desire to commemorate Earth Day by Pilgrims doing something earthbound, not littering our campus with excessive plastic feels important and is aspecial emphasiswithin the UCC broader church. We will have coolers of water and lemonade to quench your thirst.

I recognize our Worshipful Work Sunday feels unusual, out of the ordinary, unexpected. So too did resurrection. In fact, I think that our Worshipful Work might even be resurrection inspired– a perfect Sunday for Eastertide! So come join us, I believe it is another way to give God our thanks.
